Giants to wear throwback blue uniforms, helmets for 2 games in 2022 season

The New York Giants will return to their classic blue uniforms and helmets for two games in the 2022 season.

The uniform, which the team wore from 1980 to 1999, features red and blue trim on the jerseys and pants in the color palette from that era. New York is also bringing back the navy helmet with the "Giants" wordmark on the sides and a solid red stripe running down the center.

The Giants will wear the throwback uniforms on Oct. 2 against the Chicago Bears and Dec. 4 against the Washington Commanders at MetLife Stadium.

"This era obviously still holds a special place in the hearts of Giants fans," Giants president John Mara said. "Our teams during that time featured legendary players, some of the best in our franchise's history. And these uniforms remind us of what was accomplished through those years. We are thrilled to wear that uniform again."

The Giants return to their uniforms from an era that still defines the franchise. New York won Super Bowls in 1986 and 1990 under coach Bill Parcells with teams that featured fan-favorite players including Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor, Phil Simms, Carl Banks and Harry Carson.

Taylor participated in Wednesday's uniform unveiling by appearing in a video with star running back Saquon Barkley. The video starts with Barkley listening to a tape on Giants history in the team's locker room before Taylor walks in and hands Barkley the throwback uniform.
